According to motortrend.com the current generation legendary Dodge Viper will be axed in 2017 due to its inability to use curtain airbags. They simply cannot fit, ’cause too much of headroom would be lost.
Standard FMVSS #226 requires side curtain airbags that, according to “a person intimately familiar with FCA”. Anyway, the Viper nameplate will not be axed. Sergio Marchionne (the boss) said that Viper could live again on a different architecture. Maserati, Alfa Romeo or Ferrari? Not yet clear.
