A bit of ancestor history: this legendary classics was the last one to join other pony cars in 1970 and had the biggest range of engines. Based on stretched Plymouth Barracuda platform Challenger had both versions: hardtop and convertible. SE was a luxurious and a bit more powerful version of R/T that still stands for “Road/Track”.
Tip: Pony cars were described as small, light and powerful vehicles. The template for this class was provided by 1964 Mustang and then followed by Plymouth Baracuda, Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, Mercury Cougar and finally – Dodge Challenger.
