What a sale. It was expected to have it sold for $8 million, but instead it broke American car sale record and was sold for $11 million by RM Auctions at Monterey.
This 1968 Ford GT40 is an original Gulf team racer and has determined its price – it was raced by Jacky Ickx at Daytona and 1968 Le Mans and later used in Steve McQueen’s 1971 film.
Historically GT40 was a model made after Ford failed to buy Ferrari [in 1963] and GT40’s purpose was to beat it and win Le Mans. And it did it 4 years in a row back in 1966-1969.
