The greatest Corvette that was never made

RM Auctions is to auction a very unique piece of car history – the Zora Arkus-Duntov’s second Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle or simply 1963 CERV II. Price estimates – $1.4-1.8 million.

Experimental Corvette had a mission tocompete against Ferrari 248 SP and Ford GT40. CERV II features eperimental all wheel drive system, rear-mounted 377 cubic small block V8 which develops 500 HP. Top speed – 212 mph. 0-60 mph in 2.8 seconds if geared in sprint and 4.0 seconds with high-speed gears. In 1969 the engine was replaced with new all-aluminum 427 ZL1 V8 that was believed to generate around 700 horses and 221 mph top speed.
The lithgweight body made of fiberglass, magnesium and titanium resulted 1400 lbs of weight. Aerodynamics and design were done by Larry Shinoda and Tony Lapine.
