Scott Bailey, the founder and editor at Automobile Quarterly magazine commissioned the world famous Bertone to redesing and rebody the Mustang for the 1965 New York International Automobile show. So they did. And won Best of Show award in New York.
Scott arranged a 1965 Mustang red fastback (but not a GT) fully equipped with a 289 4-barrell V8, 4-speed manual transmission. Alitalia Airlines sponsored the shipping of the car to Turin, to meet the Signores Bertone and Giorgetto Giugiaro, who was Bertone’s newest talented designer. Signore Giugiaro had recently designed the Alfa Romeo GTV and Iso Rivolta which was also an Amerincan V8 powered car, so he had the appropriate experience. Their Mustang was a stunner.
