This pony from 1967 was quite a big redesign of past mustang fastback model that had changes with bulkier sheet-metal, much more noticeable grille, a bit redesigned 3-bar-styled rear lamps [which I love the most], a few other changes and had quite a big range of engines:
200 I6 with 115 HP
200 I6 with 120 HP
289 V8 with 195 HP
289 V8 with 271 HP
289 V8 with 290 HP [aka Shelby GT350]
390 V8 with 320 HP
428 V8 with 355 HP [aka Shelby GT500] – this one managed to beat 100 km [or 60 mph] in just 6.2 secs… Drag race would be finished after 14.6 seconds..
Ford’s famous big block [390] was ment to compete with Chevy’s Camaro SS. Although it could have performed better, 390 influenced 289 cylinder engine production-cut. Mr Carroll Shelby did an amazing work with Shelby models by reinforcing 289 V8 to 290 HP, and tuned 428 V8 that was already ready for races.
Only 71.042 of my favourite fastbacks were ever originally made. If you’ll get a chance to ever buy one, use your chance
