The last Dodge Viper happened to be coupe. It was factory customized with and for the largest personal [over 40] Viper collection owners D’Ann Rauh and Wayne Ruh. The last snake was painted in bronzed gold paint [from House of Kolor] and got custom stripes painted by SRT’s Bob Soroka. The stripes are pictograms of race tracks that are important in Dodge Viper’s history. The car is mounted on 5-spoke dark graphite forged aluminum wheels. Interior was also customized with leather by the guy that worked on past Viper projects with that family.
Dodge built about 500 unit in 2010 and about a half of them were special edition models [1:33, Voodoo [31unit], 30 Snakeskin ACR’s, 5 units of Canada Edition, 20 ACR roadsters, 10 Reverse ACRs, 10 Unigue Stripes, 5 Plum=crazy Vipers, 5 silver Center Band, 50 Final edition Vipers, and probably 25 units of racecars -- SRT10 ACR-X]. This Dodge Viper is the last of current generation Vipers built at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in detroit.

Mustang club of Spain provided photos of Mustang prototypes that Ford had already developed before the Intermeccanica wagon showed up in 1966. According to these prototype photos Ford developed not only the idea of Mustang wagon [1966], but sedan [1963] and even a 2-seater [1964]. Gary Witzenburg [“Mustang: The Complete History of America’s Pioneer Ponycar”] stated that Mustang concept reached fiberglass stage only and was rejected [obviously]. Sedan version would appeal to the parents of kids who bought 2-door ‘Stangs, but Witzenburg didn’t had much to comment about this version. 2-seater is logically explained to be cancelled because of its competition with Thunderbird.

There were some photos of Shelby GT350 Station Wagon submitted too, but Jeff Pearce from Utah, the man that is involved in Mustangs for 30 years, claims Ford never built Mustang wagons, so Shelby couldn’t do that either. Jeff built that red wagon in 1978 and still owns it.

The only wagon Mustang built for sure is the one made by Intermeccanica back in 1965. They built it for advertiser Barney Clark. That wagon was exposed in some books and “Car and Driver” magazine’s 1966 cover.

It is natural that Ford may want to build a 4-door sedan in order to compete with Dodge’s Charger and Chrysler’s 300C. Some say, that 2007 Interceptor concept was a serious intention [based on rear wheel drive Mustang platform], but still there’s no serious competitor for Charger and 300C from Ford…

Originally, Shelby GT’s history started because of Ford’s wish to enter Sports Car Club of America races [SCCA] where the cars were 2-door coupes only. In this case Ford made a contract with Carroll Shelby back in 1964 when Shelby was already known famous for his driver experience and his fenomenal car – Shelby Cobra.

1965-1966

The first GTs were Shelby modified K-Code 289 cubic [4.7 liter] V8 Fastbacks that had their power increased from 271 HP up to 306 HP. Shelby ordered 252 units of 1965 Fastbacks for his conversion into 1966 Shelby GT350. The project itself began in August of 1964 and in September the first Shelby GT350s were born. The public unveil was done on January 27 of 1965. Shelby GT350 also featured Hooly carburetor, Cobra valve covers, special Cobra hi-rise intake manifold, 4-speed manual transmission, side exhaust pipes, Wimbledon white body color with 2 stripes and no back seats, because of SCCA’s requirements [2-door coupes only]. All in all, there were 562 Shelby GT350 street legal and 37 GT360R units built in 1965. The Shelby GT350R were built for races only.
The 1966 production had 2378 GT250s built where 4 of them were special order convertibes for Shelby himself. Some say, there were 6 of these convertibles, but on 4 correct VINs are discovered.
Shelby struck a deal with the Hertz Corporation in 1965 in order to build a special line of 1001 GT350H V8s for “rent a racer” program, which helped Shelby to expose Shelby Mustangs across the country.

1967-1968

In 1967 Mustang Gt350 carried over with 289 cubic aluminum Cobra V8. Regular Mustangs could get 320 HP power by installing 4-barrel carburetor. Of course, Shelby went further and the new Shelby GT500 model was built in 1967 too. It was equipped with reworked 428 cubic [7 liter] Police Interceptor engine with cast-aluminum intake manifold [from Ford's 427] and twin Hooley 4-barrel carburetors to get 355 HP. GT500 had a 4-speed manual or 3-speed automatic transmission, power steering and air conditioning. The body had new nose, functional hood scoop, side body air intakes.
The 1968 Shelby GT500KR [King of the Road] had 428 cubic Cobra Jet V8 engine and developed suspiciously low 335 HP.

1969-1970

Shelby terminated the agreement with Ford in 1969, but he still had a little bit of his impact in 69-70 GT model range. Actually, the 1970 GTs were 1969 Shelby leftovers and that is why 1970 GTs were still Shelbys. The GT350 and GT 500 got quite a big facelift change. 1969-1970 Shelby GT350 got a 351 cubic [5. liter] V8 engine, while the GT500 got its 428 cubic [7 liter] V8 muscle. Transmission choice was the same: 3-speed automatic or 4-speed manual.

2006-2008

After Ford revived the 5th generation Mustang, Shelby created a special edition 2006 Shelby GT-H which was the offspring of the original 1966 Shelby GT350H “rent and race” muscle car. Only about 500 units were built. Those were equipped with 320 HP 4.6 liter GT V8 engine, 90 mm cold air intake kit, X-pipe, performance suspension, 5-speed automatic transmission, etc. The convertible Shelby GT-H was offered to rent in 2007.

There was one more special edition of 100 units unveiled in 2008 – the Barrett-Jackson Shelby GT. The Shelby pony delivers 319 HP from a Ford Racing V8 and is equipped with 5-speed manual gearbox that has Hurst short-throw shifter or a 5-speed automatic. The cars have special tuned dampers, unique sway bars inside and 18 inch alloys, Shelby Cobra hood scoop, Lemans stripes and fully black interior.

The 2006 Shelby GT500 uses 5.4 liter supercharged V8 and develops 500 HP. It also features 6-speed Tremec manual transmission, has some suspension tuning done and rides on 18-inch wheels. These cars were build in collaboration of SVT and Carroll Shelby for 3 years only, but there were about 30.000 units built.

The King of the Road model was unveiled back in 2007, in NY auto show. The Anniversary 2008 Shelby GT500KR has the same engine as GT500, but due to functional cold air intake and unique calibration this 32 valve 5.4 liter supercharged V8 engine develops as much as 540 HP [40 HP more than GT500]. The KR Mustang features carbon fiber hood with functional scoops and vents, unique carbon fiber splitter , functional brake cooling ducts, SVT-tuned suspension, some more parts from Ford Racing.
Since 2007, the Terlingua Team offers a special package for the V6 Mustangs, that includes “serious performance enhancements and striking visual cues”. The package will, of course, include the Shelby serial number…

If You already have GT500 and still feel unsatisfied, You may sent it to Shelby’s Special Performance Plant in Las Vegas and have it rebuilt into Super Snake. This rebuilt SS features some special badging, new Alcoa wheels, ram-air SS hood, stripes, splitters, 6-piston Bear brakes and many other performance features including the 5.4 Liter Kenne Bell twin-screw supercharged engine that develops 605 or 725 HP [no warranty for this one].

2010-2011

Along with the 2010 Mustang facelift came the new GT500. It had the same 5.4 liter engine but the power was increased up to 540 HP by adding cold air intake [similar to KR's]. SVT retuned the suspension a bit by adding 19 inch wheels.
The 2011 Shelby GT500 will get an engine update – it’ll be the new 5.4 aluminum V8 that is 102 pounds lighter, and more powerful – 550 HP. The car stance is lowered by 11/8 millimeters in front/rear. The steerig is assisted by new electric system, external design includes SVT performance package, 19/20 inch front/rear wheels, optional glass roof, etc.

Due to 45th Anniversary in 2011 the legendary 1965 Shelby GT350 special Mustang edition was unveiled by Shelby. 5.0 liter small block V8 will be fitted with Ford’s Racing [FR] supercharger to gain 500 HP, FR suspension, 6-speed manual transmission, Borla exhaust, 6 piston Baer brakes, 19 inch Cragar wheels, front splitter, functional hood scoop, redesigned tail lights, new dashboard for interior, etc.

Frankly, it looks like Shelby started to loose its “sought after” feature by modifying “simple” Mustangs into Shelby ones in their Shelby Mod Shops and listing them in Shelby registry as pure-blooded. We do expect that only the real production Shelbys will maintain and even increase their historical and financial value in the future.

Ironically some of the muscle cars that were not popular among buyers in 60s-70s, now are much more valuable and collectable than their pop star rivals. Some of collector cars reach even 6-7 figure price list for unit, some like Buicks, Olds are less expensive but still really good classic muscle cars. It is very important to know whether the car collector is buying isn’t fake. Luckily, it is quite simple to check cars originality from parts-documentation. it is also recommended to join collector clubs or at least buy the collector guide books. Some of muscle cars gain great value during recent years, so collectors and even investors should take a good care about investing in never-die classic muscle cars.

We introduce You the Top 10 list of muscle cars that have risen their value the most since year 2000. The original list was made for CNNMoney.com by Phil Skinner [collector car market editor at "Kelley Blue Book"], but we edited and rearranged the Top 10 by the value change in percent factor.

The Super Bee form Dodge was a limited edition muscle car produced in 1968-1971 period. The original Super Bee was based on Dodge Coronet which was Dodge’s low-priced muscle car [±$3.000] familiar to Plymouth Road Runner. After the Road Runners success Dodge devision designer were assigned to create an identity name for Dodge - the Bee was born. It had its own customized Scat Pack logo with Bee which gave the touch for the car. The first unit was based on 1968 Coronet Convertible.
The Dodge Coronet Super Bee engine option was solid: 383 Magnum [6.3 liter Big Block, 335 HP], 426 Hemi [7 liter, 425 HP] and 440 [7.2 liter Hemi, 390 HP] cubic V8s. The car had heavy duty suspension, 4-speed manual transmission, high performance tires. Coronet came only as 2-door pillared coupe during the first production run in 1968. The hardtop version joined the Bee family in 1969 – it had optional twin-scooped hood version [aka, the Ramcharger] which was seriously functional and became very popular. The 440 6-barrel option was available in 1969.
1970 Super Bee faced some changes: new front end, bucket seats, Hurst shifter [on 4-speed manuals], twin-looped front bumper [aka, bumble bee wings] which wasn’t popular among buyers and made the sales go down. Bur ironically, this feature is very popular nowadays.
The 1971 Super Bee was moved to the Charger nameplate and got its only smal block 340 4-bbl engine [5.6 liter V8, 275 HP], because 1971 Coronet was only available in sedan and station wagon bodies.
After almost 40 years the Super Bee was revived for the . It was based on limited edition “Detonator Yellow” STR8 that had 425 HP 6.1 liter Hemi engine. There were 1000 Yellow [year 2007], 1000 B5 Blue [2008] and 425 Hemi Orange [2009] Super Bees produced.

It is official, that Dodge Viper has already been sentenced to death, but there’s at least one good thing to pronounce – Dodge Viper STR10 Final Edition.

There will be a limited edition of 50 Vipers: 20 coupes, 18 roadsters and 12 ACR units. Each Viper will come with Graphite clear body paint with red center stripe and black interior leather with red stitching. Dodge Viper STR10 FE will have 1-50 numbered dash plaque.

ACR Vipers will come wis 5-spoke black wheels while coupes and roadsters will have 6-spoke ones. The Viper’s engine remains the same – 8.4 liter V10, but it develops amazing 600 HP and does 0-60 in less that 4 seconds at 202 mph [325 km/h]. It is nice to have one more snake hitting the streets, but it is much more sad, that Dodge Viper SRT10 Final Edition is the last iconic American snake.

The mid-sized Chevelle was based on reengineered A-platform and was one of the most successful GM’s cars that ranged from economical family cars to muscle-performance coupes and convertibles. All of them had friendly price tag and good performance. So, that let Chevelles, together with Pontiac GTOs, be one of the most popular street cars. The production took 1964-1977 period when the last year Chevelles were replaced by the Malibu [which first was the top level trim for Chevelle itself]. The early Chevelle drawings show that it probably would have ended as Nova nameplated cars, bacause the aim for it was to compete with equally sized Ford Fairline and other popular 55-57 models. You could get a retrimmed Chevelle based version called “Beaumont” in Canada from Pontiac dealers.
4-door Chevelle sedans were available in 1966-1972 together with dubbed Sport Sedans. The 2-door wagons were available in the bottom line 300 series back in 1964-1965, while the 2-door hard-top coupes and convertibles were produced a bit longer – until 1972. The entire run thought all Chevelle years was done by family friendly 4-door sedans and wagons taht had exclusive nameplates like: Nomad [1968-1972], Nomad Custom [1968], Greenbrier [1969-1972], Concours [1967-1972] and Concours Estate [1968-1972]. The 2-ddor hartops were known as SCs [Spot Coupe].

The real SS deal

The Chevelle SS was the high performance model range with its own line of engines and performance equipment. The SS also represented GM’s entry to the muscle car battle with quita an engine range: 396 cubic V8s – rated at 325/ 350/360/375 HP. The SS396 lasted for 3 years only [including 66-67 LE strut back SC] and the become an option package. It is known that there were 2 prototype Z16 Chevelles and one convertible built in Baltimore plant [while the regular Z16s in Kansas City]. The one of the kind convertible [commonly called the 201st Z16 Chevelle] was built for GM’s general manager, but is know to be destroyed.
The Z16 option included heavy duty suspension, narrowed rear axle and brakes from Impala, convertible boxed frame. The standard Z16 engine was the big block 396 cubic Turbo Jet V8 available only with Muncie 4-speed manual transmission.
In 1966 the Chevelle was completely restyled – the body reminded Coke bottle shape. 2 years later, in 1968, Chevelle got an other restyle which made the very popular semi-fastback roofline. The SS396 became a separate model available only in SS and performance option from 1969.
Until 1970 GM had a policy not to put larger than 400 cubic [6.6 liter] engines into mid-sized cars, but Chevy’s dealer Don Yenko managed to ovoid this restriction by using COPO system and ordering L72 427 cubic engine [425 HP] with all necessary upgrades. Yenko sold them as his own muscle cars. But since 1970 GM dropped the restriction and started to put even larger engines. The result was an other SS option with 454 cubic [7.4 liter, 360 HP] or LS6 [450 HP] V8s. The new option was called SS454.
For 1971 Chevelle faced the same emission restrictions as all other cars, so the horse power went down after reducing compression. For example, the top engine back in 1972 was rated at 270 net HP. Officially… The was no evidence that that power had changed that year. Heavy Chevy was the 1972 appearance package with special striping and any V8 except 454 big block.

1971 marked the second generation and made AMC Javelin longer, wider, lower and heavier. The revised design was a bit Mustang Mach1-like, but also was quite unique. It had roof spoiler, fender bulges, revised front fenders and grille with the driver orientated dashboard. AMC offered Javelins with a few engine and transmission options. The T-10 transmission came with a shifter from famous Hurst company. The engine range for the second generation was: 232 cubic [3.8 liter, 135 HP], 258 cubic [4.2 liter, 150HP] I-6s and 304 cubic [5.0 liter, 210 HP], 360 cubic [5.9 liter, 245-285 HP], 401 cubic [6.6 liter, 335 HP] V8s.The 1971 Javelin was advertised as “the closest thing you can get to a Trans-Am champion”. This slogan sounded like real truth with a 6.6 liter engine which made Javelin to finnish a 1/4 mile in mid-114 secs at 93 mph [150 km/h].
The 1972 model was innovate – AMC was the first one to offer 12.000 miles or one year warranty with a free loaner car if the repair took more time. The 1972 and 1973 model were offered in Pierre Cardin interior trim that had multi-color stripe pattern.
The 1973 Javelins were slightly changed with the most noticeable changes in taillights and front grille, completely flat roof [with vinyl option available]. When the market decreased other pony car manufacturers fitted smaller engines while AMC continued using big ones until the production ended in 1974. However, AMC were sold in respective numbers that outsold Barracudas an Challengers that are so popular nowadays.
